Overview
For my Content Management Systems class, the task was to create prototypes and wireframes for a WordPress PHP template, granting us creative freedom to select the website we'd reimagine. This project became a stepping stone for my exploration into the world of web design and development, allowing me to apply my design skills to a real-world project. Archive is a hub allowing users to find their fashion taste and their personal style while being able to interact with other users through comments and interactions.
Archive isn't just a blog; it's a digital space lit with cultural expression, born from my passion for fashion and a deep connection to Asian culture.
The Problem
- The original template was dated, with visual elements that did not align with the contemporary aesthetics of streetwear fashion.
- Creating a unique and cohesive brand identity for Archive proved to be a challenge, given the need to express Asian culture while showcasing streetwear brands.
- Implementing features to encourage user interaction, such as comments and sharing capabilities, required careful consideration to make the blog more engaging.
Goals
- Develop a platform that authentically and effectively showcases Asian culture, especially in the context of streetwear fashion, allowing users to engage with and learn about this unique cultural perspective.
- Prioritize creating a user-friendly interface and experience that resonates with the target audience, especially those interested in fashion and Asian culture.
- Curate a selection that resonates with my target audience.
Ideation & Moodboards
When working on the moodboard, I looked into various fashion companies and their unique branding strategies. This allowed me to gather diverse inspiration and contemplate innovative ways to shape Archive's visual identity. I aimed to blend the theme of Asian streetwear culture with the sophisticated and contemporary branding elements that resonate with our target audience.
Wireframing & Prototyping
In the wireframing phase, I took the creative vision from the moodboard into wireframes that represented the sleek and modern fashion blog I envisioned for Archive. These wireframes were the foundation for the website, defining the placement of key components, such as featured brand showcases, articles, a blog archive page, a blog template page, a landing page, and comment sections.
Competitive Research
I conducted extensive competitive research by analyzing various streetwear blogs and fashion websites. This involved a deep dive into their layouts, content organization, and user engagement features. Additionally, I analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of these websites to gain insights into best practices and identify opportunities for creativity.
The Solution (The Final Product)
In creating Archive, I aimed to combine sleek, modern design with a deep appreciation for Asian streetwear culture. I designed a platform that showcases new and upcoming Asian streetwear brands while providing an immersive user experience. My work on Archive included designing a clean, minimalist user interface and focusing on intuitive navigation and visually striking layouts. This approach makes Archive a hub for Asian streetwear fashion enthusiasts.
